Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can the tailgate still be opened with lid shut/without opening the lid?
A: The load lid is designed with a locking/backing plate (small aluminium plate) that comes down off the handle and in front of the tail gate to help prevent it being able to be opened by someone trying to get into your wellside. This component of the handle can be removed to allow you access to the wellside when your lid is loaded if you would prefer. It can be simply removed by unbolting the load lid handle, removing the backing plate and then reinstalling the handle. Shorter bolts may be required.
Q: Can I mount a roof top tent to the lid?
A: Yes, you can definitely install a roof top tent to your load lid. There are a few different configurations of side rail/track that you can chose from for this application. The option that gives you the most adjustment of forwards & back positioning is the T Track (LL-TTRACK-STD), the option with next biggest range of adjustment would be the Destroyer Side Rails (SR-DESTROYER) and the third option which offers the least range of adjustment is the Standard Side Rails (SR1550). All of these options will require cross bars for the tent to mount to (LLCB for SR1550 & LLBC-TTRACK-STD for T Track & DSR).
Q: How / Where can I get my load lid installed?
A: If you are wanting this unit installed for you, you may like to contact your local vehicle dealership/4X4 store about ordering the load lid through them. Your dealer may not have heard of us before, so simply send them our details and request that they make contact with us and we'll get them set up so you can have your Utemaster Load Lid purchased and installed through them.
Alternatively, you are able to purchase this load lid direct with us and we will freight it to you for a simple self install.
Q: How much is freight to my location?
A: Freight pricing will depend on your location and which carrier is available for delivery in your area. If you can please supply me with your suburb and postcode, I will be able to confirm this pricing for you.
Q: Does it have/how long is the warranty?
A: All of our Load Lids are backed by a 3 year warranty
Q: How easy is it to self install the lid?
A: The Load Lid is a very simple unit to self install. You will require two people to lift it on and into place, once in place simply secure the lid in the four corners with the no-drill clamping system. The only additional step with the sports bar lid is that the sports bar will need to be removed from the vehicle first, then mounted to the lid and the lid and sports bar are then installed as a complete unit. The only addition to this is if you opt for the central locking system. It is advised to have this installed by an Auto Electrician to ensure it is completed correctly. However, if you are confident in these types of tasks it is something you could look to self install by following our step by step instructions.
Q: Is it possible to remove the lid?
A: It is very simple to remove (and reinstall) the load lid. Simply undo the 4 wingnut bolts, one in each corner, from the threaded clamping tabs, release/unclip the gas stays and lift the lid off of your vehicle.
- Please make sure the load lid is shut & locked into place before removing to prevent any chance of the mounting frame from swinging loose as if this happens it could cause damage to your vehicle/injure someone. Releasing/unclipping the gas stays also helps prevent this.
Q: Can the lid lock without central locking?
A: Yes, the Load Lid comes standard with a key operated lock that is built into the locking handle of the lid. The option of central locking is simply an additional extra.
Q: How much can you load on top?
A: The load lid has a dynamic load rating of 200kgs. However when static/not moving, you are able to load more weight onto the lid safely. An example of this would be you climbing into the roof top tent you have installed and sleeping for the night.
Q: How weatherproof is the lid?
A: The load lid is a fully weatherproof unit. It has a full perimeter seal around the lid that seals to the top of your wellside, including a weatherseal strip that runs along the front of the lid to displace water.
Q: Will the lid still be weatherproof/within warranty if I remove and refit myself?
A: Yes, your load lid will still be weatherproof if reinstalled correctly. You need to ensure the lid is sitting square on the wellside and there is correct tension on the weatherseal at the front of the lid. You can remove and reinstall the load lid as often or as little as you like, this will not effect the warranty of the unit (with exception to any damage caused by the user. Product related issues are covered by the 3 year warranty)
Q: Does the central locking system come with a separate key fob?
A: No, the central locking system links into your vehicles factory central locking system and operates off your factory key fob, no additional fob is required.
Q: How secure is the load lid?
A: The Load Lid has a 3 point locking system, making it very secure. The lid has two internal slam lock mechanisms, one on either side of the lid, and it also has a backing/locking plate that comes down off the handle to help prevent access via the tail gate. The Load Lids tough build and appearance also deters people from attempting any kind of break in.
