Deck Liner Types & Information

Types Of Deck Liner

There are four types of deck liner available on the market: Under Rail, Over Rail, Spray On & Bed Rug.

The Utemaster Load Lid is compatible with all variations of liner, with the exception of the over rail liner.

If you are looking to purchase a Load Lid and you have an over rail liner, you have a few options:
- Replace the over rail for any of the other three liners outlined in this article
- Remove the liner completely
- Modify the over rail liner by cutting it down
*This option has no correct method or template and varies from model to model. It is up to the customer to complete this modification as it is not something we carry out at Utemaster.
**Please note complete cutting down of your liner will effect the weather proofing of your wellside

Under Rail - Finishes within the wellside

Over Rail - Comes up and over the wellside edge

Spray Liner - As this is a textured surface (some more so than others) weatherproofing can
possibly be effected

Wellside Capping
Some people opt for a wellside capping kit, which is similar to having an over rail liner and is used to protect the wellside edgings when only an under rail liner is used. However, in the design of the Load Lid, we have taken this need to protect your vehicle into account. The 90 degree inner frame sits over top of the wellside to help prevent those scratches and knocks, leaving the wellside rail caps unnecessary.
- As shown in the below photo

However, a capping on the tailgate is totally fine and recommended, as this part of your vehicle will stay exposed and vulnerable to damage during its lifespan.

Modification To Deck Liner

The over rail liner changes the internal measurements of the wellside, meaning the mounting frame can not sit in place as it is designed to. This means that the whole top edge of the liner would need to be cut and removed in order to allow the load lid mounting frame to slip into place.

You will need to cut the liner in the approx area that is circled in red below - this will vary from model to model, you will need to use your discretion when doing so. With the liner now being cut away, press the liner in behind the strut bracket at the yellow arrow to secure it into place. The mounting frame will now be able to drop into place.

NOTE: Please understand that with the textured liners our lids will not be waterproof. It will be weatherproof, however with the patterned plastic water can seep under the weatherseal into these small gaps.

Mitsubishi Over Rail Moulded Deck Liner

The over rail molded liner can have high spots that will prevent the mounting frame from fitting in place. Please see the instructions below to assist with the modifications required.

1: Loosen off the latches at the YELLOW, being careful not to undo them all the way in case the backing support plate falls away. Provide just enough space for the mounting frame to fit in behind
2: Carefully place the lid onto the vehicle, watching where the high points stop the frame from fitting in to place correctly. If the liner is hitting the mounting frame, you may need to cut the liner where it is marked RED
